1. Govt issues guidelines and digital media ethics code for OTT, online streaming and social media platforms
Government issued guidelines and
digital media ethics code for Over The Top (OTT), online streaming and social
media platforms.
• As per the guidelines, social media
platforms have to remove content involving nudity and morphed pictures of women
within 24 hrs to ensure online safety and dignity of users, specially women
users.
• The Social Media Intermediaries will
have to appoint a Chief Compliance Officer who will be responsible for ensuring
compliance of rules.
• The OTT platforms will self-classify
the content into five age based categories and prominently display the
classification rating specific to each content together with a content deor
informing the user about the nature of the content.
• The platforms will be required to implement parental locks for content classified as U/A 13 or higher and reliable age verification mechanisms for content classified as A.
2. 2nd edition of Global Bio-India to be organized from 1st to 3rd March
To showcase the strength and
opportunities of the India’s biotechnology sector at national level and to the
global community, the second edition of Global Bio-India will be organized from
1st to 3rd March.
• The theme for this year is
Transforming lives and tag line Biosciences to Bio economy.
• Science and Technology Minister Dr
Harsh Vardhan will inaugurate the event
virtually.
• Global Bio-India is one of the
largest biotechnology stakeholders’ conglomerates that is being co-organised by
the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology.
• Global Bio-India 2021 is expected to
have representatives from more than 50 countries with Switzerland being the
partner country and Karnataka as its state partner till date.

3. Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti has announced the selection of twelve iconic sites under Phase IV of Swachh Iconic Places.
• These sites include Ajanta Caves in
Maharashtra, Sanchi Stupa in Madhya Pradesh, Kumbhalgarh Fort, Jaisalmer Fort
and Ramdevra in Rajasthan, Golconda Fort in Telangana and Konark Sun Temple in
Odisha.
• Chandigarh's Rock Garden, Jammu and
Kashmir's Dal Lake, Banke Bihari Temple in Mathura, Agra Fort in Uttar Pradesh
and Kalighat Temple in West Bengal are the other sites.
• The initiative aims at enhancing the experience of both domestic and foreign visitors by improving the sanitation and cleanliness standards at and around the sites.
4. India kicks off BRICS chairship with inaugural three-day long Sherpas' meeting
India has kicked off its BRICS
Chairship with the inaugural three-day-long Sherpas' meeting.
• On February 19, External Affairs
Minister S Jaishankar launched India's BRICS 2021 website at the BRICS
Secretariat at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan.
• The group was formalised as BRIC in
September 2006, during the 1st BRIC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
• The 1st BRIC summit was held in
Yekaterinburg, Russia on 16 June 2009.
• BRIC group was renamed as BRICS
(Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) after South Africa was accepted as
a full member in September 2010.
• BRICS is an important grouping bringing together the major emerging economies from the world, comprising 41% of the world population, having 24% of the world GDP and over 16% share in world trade.
5. Siliguri-Dhaka train service to start on Independence Day of Bangladesh
The new Passenger train service
between India and Bangladesh will start from 26th of March.
• Independence Day of Bangladesh is
observed on 26 March every year.
• The train will leave NJP on every
Thursday and Monday while it will depart from Dhaka on Friday and Thursday.
• The Haldibari-Chilahati (in
Bangladesh) train route was opened after a gap of 55 years for goods trains on
17th of December last year.
• The passenger train between New
Jalpaiguri and Dhaka will take the same route.
• Haldibari, which is on the India-Bangladesh border, is in Cooch Behar district of the state, while Chilahati is the first station on the other side of the border, located in the Nilphamari district of the neighbouring country.
6. Himachal Pradesh CM Jai Ram Thakur launches ‘e-Parivahan Vyavstha’
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai
Ram Thakur launched ‘e-Parivahan Vyavstha’.
• It has been launched to provide
faceless services to the people of the State regarding Driving
Licence/Registration Certificates/Permits etc.
• The State Government also started
first e-Vidhan Sabha, then e-Budget and now it has started an e-cabinet. He
said the e-Parivahan was a step forward in this direction.
• He also released ‘e-Parivahan Vyavstha’ publicity literature on the occasion.
7. Delhi govt to switch its fleet of cars to electric vehicles in 6 months, says Deputy CM Manish Sisodia
The Delhi government will switch its
entire fleet of hired cars to electric vehicles within six months.
• Over two thousand cars will be
impacted by this decision and will transition to electric vehicles.
• The decision will go a long way in
curbing pollution in Delhi.
• Last year, the city government had launched an Electric Vehicle Policy to tackle the problem of air pollution.

Moody's upped India's growth
projection for the financial year 2021-22 to 13.7 per cent from 10.8 per cent
estimated earlier.
• In its 'Global Macro Outlook
2021-22, Moody's said, India's Economy has rebounded quickly from one of the
world's longest and most stringent lockdowns, which also came with the steepest
fall in GDP in the second quarter of 2020.
• For the current fiscal year, the
agency expects the Indian economy to contract by 7 per cent, lower than its
previous estimate of 10.6 per cent contraction.
• The revised numbers came on the back of normalisation of activity and growing confidence in the market with the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines.
1. 2nd edition of Khelo India Winter Games begins in Gulmarg
The second edition of 'Khelo India
Winter Games' started from February 26 and culminate on March 2 in Jammu and
Kashmir's winter destination of Gulmarg.
• Around 1200 athletes and guests from
across the country are scheduled to participate in the mega sports event.
• Athletes from 27 states and Union
Territories will converge on the snow-bound slopes of Gulmarg during the event
to compete in different categories of sports.
• The prominent sports activities, which will be the hallmark of the winter games, include snow shoe race, ice skating, ice hockey, skiing, Nordic ski, snowboarding, ski mountaineering and ice stock, etc.
1. Malayalam Poet Vishnunarayanan Namboothiri Dies
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed
anguish over the demise of Malayalam poet Vishnunarayanan Namboothiri.
• Mr Namboothiri died in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram at the age of 81.
