The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected that India's growth rate may remain at 12.5 percent in FY 2021-22. In this way, the IMF has revised its estimate for January. In January 2021, the IMF said in its estimate that in 2021-22, India's economy will grow at a rate of 11.5 percent. The global organization has made this amendment in the estimate of India's growth rate at a time when the second wave of Kovid-19 is happening across the country.

It is noteworthy that due to the proliferation of Kovid-19, many states have re-enforced strict restrictions like nocturnal curfew and lockdown. This has once again created a situation of uncertainty in Asia's third largest economy.

According to IMF estimates, in 2021-22, India's GDP growth rate may be even higher than China. It is noteworthy that only China was among the major economies that had increased positive marks last year in the midst of the Kovid-19 crisis.

The IMF has said that India's economy can grow at a rate of 6.9 per cent in FY 2022-23. The International Monetary Fund estimates that India's economy witnessed a record eight per cent contraction in FY 2020-21. Geeta Gopinath, Chief Economist at the IMF said, "We are anticipating a stronger recovery in the global economy in 2021 and 2022 than earlier estimates." We are expecting a global growth of six per cent in 2021 and 4.4 per cent in 2022. "In the calendar year 2020, the global economy saw a contraction of 3.3 per cent. Gopinath has also mentioned the increasing cases of viruses. They have said that the epidemic is not yet over. In many countries there has been a steady increase in cases of corona infection.
